Dry, complex palate reflective of the nose with additional notes of popcorn, a touch of butter, and high chalk minerality with high acidity. Full bodied. Long finish evolving from initial citric acidity to lingering saline and chalky minerality.

Delicious but probably just about as far as I would want to push it age wise. Nice riesling fruit with the petrol edge allied to honeysuckle, citrus notes, tangerine specifically. Palate is midweight with good fruit intensity at the front then the dart of slate acidity. Lovely aperitif. --Fraser Jamieson

2021 Honig "Classic" Napa / Lake County Sauvignon Blanc Winery notes: 97% Sauvignon Blanc, 1.4% Sauvignon Gris, 1.3% Semillon 0.3% Muscat (66% Napa County, 34% Lake County) . The fruit for this wine comes from our sustainably farmed vineyard in Rutherford, as well as other nearby vineyards. The grapes were harvested during the cooler night-time and early morning temperatures, preserving the inherent aromas and flavors. The juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks using a variety of yeast strains selected to enrich the aroma and flavor profiles of Sauvignon Blanc. An enticing mix of honeysuckle, peach and tropical fruit aromas to a luxurious blend of floral, stone fruit and a mélange of citrus flavors on the palate. The wine is simultaneously elegant and rich, perfectly balanced from the gorgeous nose all the way through the lengthy, layered finish.

Clean and bright, golden in colour with ambar reflections. Fine and expressive nose where citrus aromas (of tangerine) and ripe fruit (apricot and peach) dominate; floral notes emerge as a feature of our white wines. Full bodied palate, elegant, fine and very present, reflecting the quality of the grapes of this vintage where balance and "finesse" are its best descriptors.

The 2019 Zinfandel was blessed with ideal growing conditions across the state, similar to the 2018 iteration. Syrah and Petite Sirah also benefited from the growing season. In 1989, when we had to decide on the plantation of the south side of the Clos, nearest to the forest, we opted for the Chardonnay grape, with the clear intention to produce a still wine, blending it with Auxerrois grape also located near the Clos. The cooler climate and rocky limestone, rich in magnesium (the Windsbuhl limestone is of the dolomitic type) felt ideal for Chardonnay. We were also looking for higher acidity, in a global warming context, and we met eventually all our expectations. Sadly, the Chardonnay is only allowed for sparkling wines in Alsace, hence the presentation as Vin de Table. 2016 produced a generous crop of beautiful healthy grapes. The wine fermented slowly, as usual, and finished dry.

This wine is in fact the ‘second’ wine of our Grand Cru Brand, produced by the youngest vines there. Youngest, yes, at 36 years old average, because the oldest vines are much older and do produce a very different wine! In 2018, we also added the very small production of the young vines of the Sommerberg Grand Cru that was planted in 2013. I didn’t change the average age of the vines becomes it represented less than 10% of the total volume. Mea Culpa! These granitic vineyard enjoy some of the most precocious, warm, sun drenched situation in Alsace, and are growing on very poor sandy soil that looks very dry when there is no regular rain. Despite that, the vines were beautifully green throughout summer. That can be explained by the possibility these vines have to grow deeper root system and then find finer elements (clay originating from the black mica) and some humidity. In 2018, the grapes ripened quickly and reached a perfect balance, it wasn’t easy for the vines, but the stress was under control. The 2018 wine fermented very slowly but kept a steady pace and finished dry.
