This wine is made from all the very old Gewurztraminer vines planted in the Turckheim/Herrenweg vineyards. Some of these vineyards are also located in the richest part of the valley floor, where the gravels are mixed with by richer silt. With deeper roots and richer soils available to them, these vines didn’t suffer from drought. The ripeness progressed quickly in 2018. Gewurztraminer is a wine that can surprisingly ferment fast, which is handy, as a higher pH would expose these wines to more problems if the fermentation would last too long. The Gewurztraminer is still probably the most important grape variety in Turckheim in terms of acreage planted. The precocious and dry climate would help to ripen a grape variety that needs and enjoys some warmth and sunshine during the ripening period prior harvest. Something that is abundant in Turckheim! The 2019 vintage had the right weather combination for this grape variety. Some millerandage and coulure, due to colder temperatures around flowering, also dropped the yields by 10 to 20%. This wasn’t a problem, and on the contrary it helped the grapes to get more concentrated in flavours. 2019 is probably on of the nicest vintage for Gewurztraminer in this area for many years. The wine, slightly richer than usual, didn’t finish to ferment dry and kept a very small amount of residual sweetness.

This Pouilly-Fuissé opens with creamy honeysuckle on the nose. A generous mouthfeel complements a nice ripeness and intense richness with notes of gingerbread and flowers. The wine is ample, smooth and well balanced, with a vivid, spicy finish. With age, it will gain in richness and fully reveal itself. Pair with chicken prepared with Thai spices, gratin of scallops with a curried sauce, veal with vanilla and sultanas, and rich, creamy cow's milk cheeses.

Pops of hazelnut and cream lend richness to this ripe, lusciously textured Chablis. Bright lemon and yellow-apple flavors on the palate maintain the appellation's characteristic steeliness and nerve but this mouthfilling Chardonnay is welcoming young and likely to drink well through 2035.

Jean-Marc’s friend’s parcel in Les Raclots is 60 years old, planted in the appellation’s classic clay-limestone terrain. This cuvée offers a similar saline impression to the “Les Gaudoirs,” but with greater power and depth of fruit, and a sense of underlying richness that stops short of viscosity. “Les Raclots” more than holds its own against some of Jean-Marc’s more gras-oriented Chassagne-Montrachet 1er crus, and it should age terrifically.

On the nose it displays toasty baking spices, nutmeg, spring flowers, marzipan, and pit fruits. The partial oak and lees aging gives this Verdejo additional roundness, complexity, and length. 100% Verdejo planted on sandy, alluvial pebble covered soils - many of the old vines are ungrafted - at the high altitudes of the Spanish Meseta, west of Segovia. An intense contintental climate provides ample sunshine for the Verdejo to develop rich aromas of peaches, pears, and tropical fruits, while the high altitudes bring cool nights that ensure balanced acidity that keeps these wines fresh. Vines are dry-farmed without use of pesticides or herbicides, hand-harvested and 20% are fermented in large, neutral French oak barrels while the rest ferments in stainless steel. Olivier Giroux Clos des Rocs Pouilly Loche Les Mures 2017 The lieu-dit of “Les Mures” is considered to be the finest example of the appellation, though this is due in part to the absence of the Clos des Rocs Monopole cru from the market for many years prior to Olivier’s arrival on the scene. Rankings aside, the 40-year vines and limestone-rich soil of “Les Mures” (situated immediately next to the Clos des Rocs) produce an undeniably fine wine with persistent minerality marked by notes of lemon confit, and finishing with exceptional length. Elevage is half each in cuve and neutral barrel for one year, and this is a true example of a vin de garde from the estate.
