For generations, the ethnic groups of southwest Yunnan province have wild-harvested leaves from ancient tea plants, some centuries old and as tall as trees. The thick body and dense chestnut flavor of Pu-erh leave a smooth-yet-resounding finish on the palate. Pu-erh green tea flavor is fresh and vegetal similar to green tea but more digestive. Ripe (or cooked Pu'er) is aged longer and its aroma and flavor are deep, rich, earthy, and semi-sweet.  This attractive gift box contains the best raw and aged Pu-erh tea cakes from Menghai region. Pu-Erh is a fully fermented tea that goes through complex processing in which it is shaped into cakes and, like a fine wine, is aged for years to mature the full bloom of its flavors. This process creates a unique aroma and complex flavors along with many added health benefits. Pu-Erh is believed to aid in reducing cholesterol and fat and is best enjoyed around 15 - 20 minutes after a meal to aid in digestion. This tea can be prepared 'gongfu' style, using a small teapot and preparing multiple infusions from the same leaves. It is best enjoyed if it's rinsed with boiling water prior to steeping.

那卡 手工普洱生茶 茶饼 2014年 NA KA RAW Pu-Erh TEA CAKE - 2014 This tea has a straightforward, clean, woodsy aroma and an attractive pale-gold colored liquor in the cup. Be careful when steeping this leaf, as over-steeping it can turn this tea into a pithy and bitter beverage. Naka is a Lahu minority village located at the northern end of Mengsong area, between Menghai and Jinghong. It is a remote area close to the highest peak in Xishuangbanna. The ancient tea trees in this area grow at elevations as high as 5,900 – 6,500 feet. The environment is colder here than in other tea-growing areas of Xishuangbanna, which results in tea trees with slightly smaller leaves and unique aromas. Sheng Pu-Erh (aka raw Pu'er)  is un-fermented when young but microbial activity on the leaf will allow the tea to slowly ferment overtime when the tea is kept under good storage conditions. Sheng Pu-er can be drunk now or stored for years to allow a slow microbial transformation of the tea into something rich and full. Similar to young wines that will, over time, transform into much more substantial wines, Sheng Pu-er is prized by collectors and tea enthusiasts for this ability to age and improve over time. The Naka tea harvesting area is located near the Mengsong/Nannuo tea harvesting areas which are populated by Hani people who own a dense concentration of ancient tea trees. They take their tea and the presence of their tea trees to be a connection to their ancestors.

品品香 福鼎白茶饼 老白茶砖 陈年老白茶叶 白牡丹茶饼砖赛白金1025 500g/盒 PPX Bai Mu Dan/ Sai Bai Jin White Tea Cake (1025) Limit Made by one bud with two tea leaves, this premium white tea cake is highly sought after for its delicate, mellow, sweet taste. . . . Extremely popular in Asia, aged white tea pressed into tea cakes is highly sought after for its mellow, woody taste with hints of sweetness on the finish. Some of the most coveted white tea from China comes from the Funding region of Fujian Province, China. In the West its often thought that fresh white tea from the year of harvest is best. Yet in the East, this is not necessarily true. In fact, the current trend in China and other parts of Asia is the appreciation of all things aged. Aged white tea cakes are an experience all their own. As these White Peony (Bai Mu Dan) cakes age more subtle and complex flavors appear. . . . Literally meaning White Peony, Bai Mu Dan comes from Fujian Province, China. Leaves are sun-dried after plucking and then piled for a short time. Finally, the leaves are baked to be finished for shipping. Bai Mu Dan, also known as Bai Mudan, White Tea was developed in the 1920s in Fujian as China worked to meet the demand for unique teas from the United States and Europe. Bai Mu Dan is usually a bud and has either one or two small open leaves. When you look at the dried leaves they resemble small peony flowers; hence the name White Peony Tea. The bud in Bai Mu Dan is shorter than Bai Hao Silver Needle White Tea typically, as it is made from different cultivars of Camellia Sinensis. Bai Mu Dan is also dried in the sun. However, it is typically baked after drying resulting in a wide array of colors in the leaves from silver to the dark brown you would expect from a black tea. Still, the tea is only around 5-7% oxidized.  This white tea can be brewed just like Bai Hao, however, you should experiment with brewing it like an oolong, with a water temperature up to 190° Fahrenheit and 3-5 minutes of steeping. It produces a very different flavor depending on how it is prepared. Brewed as you would a white tea you get a smooth floral tea. Brewed as you would an oolong (closer to 190°) and you will get strong muscatel flavors with a hint of nuttiness from the very pale yellow liquor. (dominiontea.com)
