  • Penfolds Bin 51 Riesling Eden Valley 2019

Penfolds Bin 51 Riesling Eden Valley 2019

    Out of stock

Penfolds Bin 51 Riesling Eden Valley 2019 Winemaker Notes Light straw in color. When opened and swirled mandarin, lemon cordial and orange blossom aromatics are immediately unleashed. Acquiesces in the citrus spectrum - more so than manifesting Eden Valley’s archetypal floral aromas... a warmer-than-average growing season has left its imprint. Upon closer inspection, hints of lavender talc, lychee and the faintest waft of cardamom spice. No doubting variety, style and region! A slightly fuller Riesling akin to the Bin 51’s of the early 2000’s, no doubt due to the drier and warmer 2019 Eden Valley harvest. Tempting flavours of lemon tea cake, apple strudel with jasmine florals and Tahitian lime leaf round out a palate nevertheless still enlivened by chalky acidity. ‘Softened’ and very approachable now. Recommend more immediate drinking, with medium-term Eden Valley Riesling cellarability. Partake. The 2019 vintage is a story of quality over quantity. Like the rest of South Australia’s growing regions, Eden Valley had a very dry winter and spring. These conditions continued through summer with hot and dry weather in January and February. The prevailing conditions resulted in one of the lowest yielding vintages on record. The resultant dry conditions meant there was no disease pressure. Riesling grapes exhibited terrific varietal character, with bracing natural acidity.

  • Tyrell Vat 9 Shiraz Hunter Valley 2018

Tyrell Vat 9 Shiraz Hunter Valley 2018

Lots of crushed berries with red earth, terra-cotta and hints of metal and blue fruit. Ferrous. Salt and white pepper. Some oyster shell, too. Full to medium body, bright fruit and lightly chewy yet polished tannins. Drink in 2022. COMMENTARY: If I polled a group of wine experts, most of them would not think that an Australian Shiraz could be elegant. The 2018 Tyrrell's Vat 9 is stylish, persistent, and beautiful. TASTING NOTES: This wine shows up with a racy grapiness from start to finish. Enjoy its liveliness with roast chicken and crisp romaine. (Tasted: December 2, 2020, San Francisco, CA)

  • Tyrell's Hunter Valley Semillon 2019

    Tyrell's Hunter Valley Semillon 2019

Winemaker Notes Sourced from a small selection of our favourite Semillon blocks, the grapes were both hand and machine picked before gentle pressing and fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine then spent a few months on yeast lees to gain extra complexity and mouth feel.

  • Weingut Jager Steinfeder Gruner Veltline 2022

Weingut Jager Steinfeder Gruner Veltline 2022

Jager is a 5th generation estate located in the incredibly picturesque hamlet of Weissenkirsch in the southern Wachau. It is a tiny, five-hectare estate comprised of some of the best vineyard sites in this appellation, including Klaus and Achleiten. The trellised vineyards run steeply along the Wachau, following her contours and turning in the direction in which she runs. The wines are usually fermented in stainless steel, except in the rare vintages where he has enough to fill an old, large oak barrel. Besides the fact that these wines are hallmark examples of the terroir in which they grow, they are less expensive than their more famous neighbors who produce wine in the same vineyards. Our only complaint is that there is not enough wine!
