Winemaker Notes The ensuing wine is amazingly complex and classic Napa Valley. The aroma is cedar, cola, dark black fruit and just a kiss of oak. The palate is round, expansive, bright and complex with flavors of cocoa, coffee, fruit and herbs. The wine fills the mouth but isn’t dominated by any one element and finishing amazingly bright for Cabernet Sauvignon. One of the great joys of making Cabernet is blending the wine before bottling and this wine was so very fun to combine just the right amount of Cabernet Sauvignon with its power, Cabernet Franc for the beautiful wild aroma and flavor, a touch of Merlot for the dusty plum character, Malbec for violet notes and Petit Verdot for color and tannin. Blend: 82% Cabernet Sauvignon,7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec Critical Acclaim Tasting Panel Named for a north-to-south throughway that traverses Napa Valley, this blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Cab Franc with small portions of Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Merlot exudes aromas of mint, cedar, and ripe blackberry. The nose mimics the palate, which sees the addition of a dusting of chocolate as well as violets and savory Italian herbs.

2016 G.B. Crane Vineyard el Coco Decadent and rich, the nose opens with ripe boysenberry, blackberry and dark chocolate with a touch of aromatic nuance - forest floor and a satiating minerality. The entry is expansive and weighty with dark berries, ripe stone fruits, a hint of bing cherry with a long chain of white pepper. The complex finish is lengthy with soft, supple tannins stemming from the high percentage of new French oak.

Winemaker Notes Saldo was created to feature the outstanding fruit sourced from Dry Creek, Lodi, and Amador, where Zinfandel has thrived for decades. Dark ruby color with bold aromas of black licorice, black pepper, cherry, and baking spice. The entry is rich, full, and scintillating. The palate is mouthwatering and smooth with a hint of chocolate. The finish is voluptuous with soft, velvety tannins. Blend: 85% Zinfandel; 15% Petite Sirah and Syrah Critical Acclaim Tasting Panel Rich and spicy nose; dense, earthy, and tangy. The Prisoner strikes again: yet another winner from this mysterious producer and its winemaker Chrissy Wittmann. Kevin PC Zinfandel seems better fresh to catch the vibrancy that is the dominant American style. Several producers have told me the same, drink when released don’t hold. Aromas are boysenberry, Blueberry and cedar. Flavors are blueberry, currant, blackberry and applewood smoke. Tasted twice with same notes.

The aroma is intense but hardly simple or direct. You must take some time to search for it, but you’re rewarded by its complexity. That remarkable softness remains, along with a blend of flavors that are approachable and satisfying. We seek elegance here, and in vintages like the 2018 Left Bank Red we find it.

Winemaker Notes The 2015 vintage opens with gentle aromas of ripe cherries, cassis and hints of violet and sage. Its immediate accessibility on the palette offers up elegant notes of black cherries, crème de menthe and sage with an underlying belly of gravelly notes and minerality. As the wine expands on the mid-palette, the soft tannins and smooth acidity help extract the subtle notes of rich boysenberry, ripe cherry and plum to take center stage. Winemaker Notes The 2016 Hallberg Ranch Pinot is pure, elegant, layered and complex. The wine is reminiscent of a warm black cherry tart dusted with cinnamon. There are hints of caramelized sugar and freshly toasted almonds. The wine is driven by dark spices and earth, with a sturdy frame from fine-grained tannins. All of these elements seamlessly combine to create the distinctive wine that is Hallberg Ranch. Critical Acclaim Tasting Panel Lattin picks at lower sugar levels, and it shows in an acid structure that remains high-toned from vintage to vintage. Composed of 11 different clones, this wine comes in on the lower end of ripeness, with bergamot and earth joining the fruit. The spice is augmented on the palate, with deep-dish cherry pie and marzipan on the finish. James Suckling Very attractive aromas of ripe dark cherries here with a swath of blueberries and violets, too. The palate has a supple, smooth and glossy feel with a sleek array of fine tannins, folding out long and smooth at the finish. Solid pinot here. Drink or hold.
