Nicolas Jay Willamette Valley Oregon 2016

Winemaker Notes The 2016 wines show an incredible density and concentration, with brilliant red and black fruit and impressive tannins. The 2016 Willamette Valley is a focused wine, revealing a darker nose than the previous vintage, with black cherry and plum accented by hints of violet, dried herbs, and bay laurel. Sixto Frenchman Hills Vineyard Chardonnay Washington 2015

93 points Jeb Dunnuck  The 2015 Chardonnay Frenchman Hills offers a similar rich, ripe, sexy style, with a touch more minerality as well as toasted nut notions. Deep, rich, concentrated, and opulent, yet always with a fresh style, it's another ripe, toasty, rich Chardonnay to drink over the coming 2-3 years.  (4/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate  The 2015 Chardonnay Frenchman Hills Vineyard is very attractive, wafting from the glass with notes of buttered yellow orchard fruit, honeycomb, subtle spice and struck match. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, glossy and ample, with bright acids, lovely grip and tension and a chalky, flavorful finish. It's a very compelling Washington State Chardonnay. (WK)  (6/2018) 92 points Vinous  Bright yellow-gold. Lively scents of peach, lemon and spices, with a touch of mineral pungency. Silky, fine-grained, seamless wine with a hint of salinity to its complex stone fruit, cyanic apricot pit and brown spice flavors. Lovely umami texture here in a rich but very dry wine. Finishes tactile and long, with a touch of youthful austerity. (From vines planted on broken basalt soil at nearly 1,700 feet.) (ST)  (10/2017)

  • Koryo Insam (Heaven 15)

    Korean Ginseng/Koryo Insam (Heaven 15)

“Heaven 15” Korean ginseng, 6 years old Korean ginseng is a perennial rhizome plant. Authentic Korean ginseng refers specifically to ginseng produced on the Korean peninsula and has a history of thousands of years in North Korea. Since the Korean era, it has been widely cultivated and spread in the Kaesong area of North Korea. It is recognized by the world as the best ginseng. The roots with rhizomes of Araliaceae plants are processed and steamed. Its effects include nourishing vitality, nourishing and strengthening the body, relieving thirst and calming and nourishing the mind. It is suitable for people who have insomnia, physical weakness, heart failure, and cardiogenic shock.  Authentic Korean ginseng has been grown for 6 years. There are two types which are white ginseng and red ginseng, but the Korean ginseng is usually referred to as red ginseng. During the processing of red ginseng, a variety of other Chinese medicinal materials are used to resolve the "dryness" of ginseng and increase its efficacy.  "Zhengguanzhuang" ginseng is equivalent to the Korean official certified Korean ginseng. The processing process and the types and proportions of other medicinal materials are confidential. That is to say, Korean ginseng produced in Korea will have differences in processing and formula. Chinese produced "Korea ginseng" mostly uses ginseng grown in the Changbai Mountain area of China. Most of them are 3-4 years old. There will be some differences in the effectiveness of ginseng itself. The processing method and other medicinal materials will also be different from South Korea. It is red ginseng made by Chinese people in accordance with the processing method of the Korean people. If the "reed bowl" on the reed head is less than 6, indicating fewer than six years old, it is made in China, not imported from Korea. The imported Korean ginseng (red ginseng) is red in color with firm skin, few folds, and has a compressed quadrangular prism shape. The two levels of heaven and earth have two legs and a firm body. Under bright light, real Korean ginseng is completely translucent, with few or no opaque nodules. Strictly selected for quality and freshness, Korean red ginseng roots are carefully selected, steamed with the skins unpeeled, preserving vital nutrients and flavors. Light yellowish brown to light reddish brown in color, the steamed and dried Korean red ginseng roots may remain preserved for periods up to 10 years or more. If the ginseng is different from the above colors, it is definitely not genuine. Cautions: Do not eat Korean ginseng with Wulingzhi, Veratrum (American hellebore) or radish. Consult an herbalist if you mix red ginseng with other stimulating herbs or medicines.
