Dongfanghong Dan Cong Tea is a premium Oolong tea originating from the Phoenix Mountains in Chaozhou, Guangdong. Crafted from single-bud tea leaves of ancient Camellia sinensis trees, this semi-fermented tea is celebrated for its complex floral aroma, honeyed sweetness, and lingering aftertaste. Sourced from high-altitude tea gardens with misty climates, it embodies the quintessential character of Fenghuang Dan Cong (Phoenix Single Bush) tea.
Origin:Chaozhou, Guangdong | Sort:Oolong Tea (Semi-Fermented) | Level:Premium Grade |
Season:Early Spring | Caffeine:☆☆☆☆ | Storage:Store in airtight containers in a cool, dry place; avoid moisture and odors. |
Traditional Dan Cong craftsmanship involves 6 key steps: 1. Withering: Fresh leaves are sun-dried to reduce moisture and activate enzymes. 2. Yaoqing (Shaking): Leaves are gently shaken in bamboo baskets to promote oxidation and release aroma. 3. Fixation: Stir-frying at high temperature to halt oxidation and lock in flavor. 4. Rolling: Hand-rolled to form tight, curly strips and release internal juices. 5. Oxidation: Controlled fermentation to develop the tea’s distinct floral notes. 6. Roasting: Low-temperature 烘焙 (roasting) with charcoal to enhance complexity and aroma.
The dry tea features tightly curled, dark green leaves with hints of golden yellow, adorned with natural white hairs. The aroma is intensely floral, blending notes of osmanthus, orchid, and ripe citrus, with a subtle maltiness.
Brewed liquor is a bright, amber-gold with a transparent sheen. The texture is smooth and velvety, with a luminous quality that reflects its premium craftsmanship.
On the palate, it delivers a layered sweetness starting with floral notes (reminiscent of magnolia and honey) followed by a rich, fruity undertone. The finish is long-lasting, with a refreshing minerality and no astringency. It retains its complexity through 8–10 infusions, evolving subtly with each steep.
Rich in polyphenols and antioxidants, this tea supports: - Enhanced mental focus and stress relief - Improved metabolism and digestion - Cardiovascular health by aiding in lipid regulation - Hydration and skin health through free radical neutralization - A natural energy boost without jitters
Ideal for Oolong tea connoisseurs seeking the bold, aromatic profile of Fenghuang Dan Cong, as well as tea enthusiasts new to single-bush Oolongs. Perfect for morning or afternoon enjoyment, and pairs excellently with traditional Chinese pastries, nuts, or light desserts.
Gaiwan (porcelain or Yixing clay), glass teapot (to admire the liquor color), or traditional Zisha teapot to enhance the tea’s aroma.
1. Use 8–10g of tea for a 150ml gaiwan. 2. Preheat tools with boiling water, then add tea leaves. 3. Rinse briefly with 100°C water to awaken the leaves. 4. First steep: 5–8 seconds (to release initial aroma). 5. Subsequent steeps: Increase by 5 seconds each, up to 10 infusions.
8–10 infusions, with each steep revealing different layers of flavor and aroma.
Water temperature: 100°C (boiling, suitable for high-fired Oolong) First infusion: 5–8 seconds Second–fifth infusions: 10–15 seconds Later infusions: 20–30 seconds
