茶餅：又稱餅茶、團茶。歐陽修《歸田錄》：茶之品，莫貴于龍鳳，謂之團茶，凡八餅重一斤。“現在仍然采用餅茶生產技術的主要就有普洱茶、六堡茶、老白茶，這樣更能發揮其越陳越香的特色風味。
普洱茶餅都是用普洱茶壓縮成餅的形狀，俗稱普洱茶餅。普洱茶多爲餅狀壓制的方式儲藏及運輸，歷史上一餅為357克，七餅為一挑，方便計算以及騾馬馱運。
茶磚：又稱磚茶、蒸壓茶，顧名思義，就是外形像磚一樣的茶葉，它是緊壓茶中比較有代表性的一種，以茶葉、茶莖，有時還配以茶末壓制成的塊狀茶。
茶磚出現于光緒年間，很多產茶地開始製作成磚茶。從前茶農交給晉商的散裝茶，體積大、重量輕，運輸不便，且需將茶葉裝入竹簍内，踩壓結實後，再行運輸頗有耗損。爲了適應茶商的要求，因而出現了磚茶生產。
最早出現的茶磚，始自光緒初年，初期壓制法一般都是采用人工壓制；從光緒四年(1878)以後，便逐漸采用了水力壓機和蒸汽機來加工磚茶。方法簡單有效便於操作。可以說西方先進工業技術，最早在我國出現，茶磚真實的表現了清代我國對外貿易的歷史面貌，以及近代科技在我國的發展演變過程。
