性味

苦、酸，微寒。

经脉

归肝经、脾经。

主治

养血柔肝，缓中止痛，敛阴收汗。治胸腹胁肋疼痛，泻痢腹痛，自汗盗汗，阴虚发热，月经不调，崩漏，带下。

用法用量

内服：煎汤，5~12g；或入丸、散。大剂量可用15~30g。

注意禁忌

不宜与藜芦同用。 虚寒腹痛泄泻者慎服。

White Peony Root/ Bai Shao (16 oz)

Bai shao or white peony is considered useful for hypertension, chest pain, muscle cramping and spasms, and fever. It was an important remedy for female reproductive conditions ranging from dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation) to irregular menses. It is an ingredient in Four Friends Tea 四物湯 (Si Wu Herbal Soup) which is a blood tonic for women’s health. and beauty, and it regulates menstruation.

White peony root has effects in arresting muscle spasm, relieving pain and fever, anti-inflammatory, anti-hypoxia, immune regulation, liver protection, improving blood circulation of the heart, expanding blood vessels, inhibiting blood platelet clotting, anti-tumor, regulating blood sugar.

According to the manufacturer:

This product is the dried root of Paeonia lactiflora.
The herb’s taste is bitter, sour, and is slightly cold. It enters the Liver meridian and Spleen meridian.

Indications: It nourishes blood and eases the liver, relieves pain, condenses the yin (reduces excess saliva and diarrhea) and reduces excess sweating. It is said to “Cure chest and abdomen and flank pain, diarrhea, abdominal pain, spontaneous sweating, night sweats, yin deficiency and fever, irregular menstruation, metrorrhagia, and vaginal discharge.”

Cautions: It is not suitable for use with Veratrum (false hellebores herb). Patients with diarrhea and abdominal pain should use caution.
