Jager is a 5th generation estate located in the incredibly picturesque hamlet of Weissenkirsch in the southern Wachau. It is a tiny, five-hectare estate comprised of some of the best vineyard sites in this appellation, including Klaus and Achleiten. The trellised vineyards run steeply along the Wachau, following her contours and turning in the direction in which she runs. The wines are usually fermented in stainless steel, except in the rare vintages where he has enough to fill an old, large oak barrel. Besides the fact that these wines are hallmark examples of the terroir in which they grow, they are less expensive than their more famous neighbors who produce wine in the same vineyards. A round, mouth-filling, textured 2018 Blanc etc. offers almond croissant, sweet apple and nectarine flavors. Full in body, the 2018 presents a sense of weight, fine texture, a line of delightful acidity and a lengthy, savory finish. From the Pouilly-Fumé appellation but now labeled as Vin de France, this wine was known as Blanc de Pouilly-Fumé until 2017. HARVEST NOTE 2018 produced a vintage of historic quality. The hot and dry summer season brought the grapes to complete and uniform maturity with no adverse elements to sort out. Fermentations proceeded steadily and the wine began its extended aging in barrels in the Jadot cellar for 18 months, followed by an additional 6-month period of refinement in stainless steel tanks. TASTING NOTE The thoroughly ripe grapes conferred a deep color to this wine as well as an opulent texture. Aromas of dark berries are intertwined with hints of mocha and spice which evolve over the long and persistent finish. This wine has both the elegance and density to age for many years to come.
