  • The Mascot Red 2018

    The Mascot Red 2018

The Mascot shares the hallmarks of Napa Valley’s most elite wines, such as meticulous farming, high-profile winemaking, and pedigreed grapes, offering an introduction to Napa’s most distinguished Cabernet Sauvignons. Emerging from distinct hillside vineyards, specifically from the comparatively younger vines of BOND, Harlan Estate, and Promontory, The Mascot lucidly reveals its unrivaled pedigree with each swirl of the glass while offering insight into the vintage and evolution of its parent properties. While the winery doesn’t specify exact grape varietal percentages in each vintage, The Mascot has historically been 85-95% Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petite Verdot. Crafted in an intensely captivating style that’s gloriously supple, penetrating, and harmoniously balanced, only a few very select retailers have the opportunity to offer this wine, and we are delighted to be one of them!

  • The Ojai Vineyard Syrah Roll Ranch Vineyard 2019

The Ojai Vineyard Syrah Roll Ranch Vineyard 2019

TASTING NOTE: Even a cool vintage does little to nudge Roll Ranch Syrah away from a lavish expression of fruit. This 2019 bottling is all about it. Still, there’s lots of cool-climate intrigue and freshness to this big Syrah. Rich aromas of ripe red plum and black cherry dominate, but brighter beams of apricot poke through and there are pretty botanical qualities of jasmine tea, fenugreek and sage-y herbs. Lots of that is on the palate too, which gives luscious stone fruits before turning toward mouthwatering berry notes with spiciness and roasted herbs in the finish. The tannins are fine but plentiful—pair it with fatty meat dishes like carnitas, ribeye or cassoulet in the meantime. Not a meat-eater? The big fruit of this wine is a tasty counter to the bitter edge of crispy roasted vegetables. VINTAGE & WINEMAKING: 2019, like its sister vintage 2018, will go down as one of our favorite vintages. The cool Spring led to a later start for the vines, then onshore coastal weather dominated throughout veraison. We obtained perfectly healthy fruit throughout a long, staggered harvest that stretched into the end of October. This Syrah was harvested in the wee hours of the morning on September 16th. We loaded the tank with 71% whole-clusters, including a bit of Viognier. Then added our house-cultured yeast (derived from fruit picked while sampling) and gently pumped over the juice twice a day until the wine became dry. It was then aged in French oak barrels (21% new) for 20 months, with just one racking before bottling. Like almost all our reds, it was bottled unfiltered and unfined with minimal effective sulfur.

  • The Prisoner Wine Co. "Saldo" Zinfandel 2016

The Prisoner Wine Co. "Saldo" Zinfandel 2016

Winemaker Notes Saldo was created to feature the outstanding fruit sourced from Dry Creek, Lodi, and Amador, where Zinfandel has thrived for decades. Dark ruby color with bold aromas of black licorice, black pepper, cherry, and baking spice. The entry is rich, full, and scintillating. The palate is mouthwatering and smooth with a hint of chocolate. The finish is voluptuous with soft, velvety tannins. Blend: 85% Zinfandel; 15% Petite Sirah and Syrah Critical Acclaim Tasting Panel Rich and spicy nose; dense, earthy, and tangy. The Prisoner strikes again: yet another winner from this mysterious producer and its winemaker Chrissy Wittmann. Kevin PC Zinfandel seems better fresh to catch the vibrancy that is the dominant American style. Several producers have told me the same, drink when released don’t hold. Aromas are boysenberry, Blueberry and cedar. Flavors are blueberry, currant, blackberry and applewood smoke. Tasted twice with same notes.

  • Timeless Red Napa Valley 2018

    Timeless Red Napa Valley 2018

A stunning new wine from the family of Silver Oak, the 2018 Timeless Red was grown on Soda Canyon Ranch—the property that has provided the backbone of Silver Oak’s Napa Valley Cabernet for two decades—in one of the best vintages of all time. And it delivers on the promise of its impeccable pedigree. Timeless is an homage to the Duncan legacy of vintners. Coming from a winemaking family now in their third generation (with a fourth not far behind), it’s a masterful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc that has all the finesse and complexity of the family’s signature wines. Aged in new French Oak, it shows a luxurious texture and subtle notes of cacao and vanilla, which all enhance the ripe black fruit and wild herbs.  The iconic Soda Canyon Ranch in southeastern Napa has been an integral part of Silver Oak Napa Valley since 1999. The Duncans farm the property in six distinct blocks, each with its own microclimate and soil profile, and Silver Oak winemaker Nate Weis selected lots from each of the plots to craft Timeless into one wine that paints a picture of this legendary site. Unlike Silver Oak, Timeless undergoes a Bordeaux-style French Oak aging regimen and soutirage (racking), and the result is a gorgeous Napa Valley wine with tons of grace. Timeless might be a new name, but it has been part of the Duncan story for decades. Like all of their wines, this one will make a beautiful addition to any cellar.

To Kalon Vineyard Highest Beauty Oakville Napa Valley 2016

99 points James Suckling This pure cabernet sauvignon is the real deal with redcurrant and terracotta character on both the nose and palate. It’s full-bodied, yet really reserved and ultra-refined. The quality of the tannins is super with such fine grain, yet it continues on for minutes. This is the first release and it shows beautiful classicism. Shows the essence of the place. Needs four or five years to come around.

    Tr3smano Tm 2016

    Tr3smano Tm 2016

WINEMAKERS: Fernando Remírez de Ganuza & Pedro Aibar Sánchez 2016 HARVEST: 2016 was characterized by an unusually mild winter for a continental climate, with a rainy spring that delayed budding. Summer was hot and dry, with high temperatures in June that caused the early onset of flowering. The existing water reserves in the soil allowed optimal ripening. The harvest took place on the morning of October 6, with exceptional grape quality. It was carried out manually in small boxes, and the best clusters were carefully selected by hand. GRAPE CHARACTERISTICS: 100% Tempranillo. Grown in two exclusive vineyards of more than 100 years old, located in the area of Anguix and La Horra, on the moorlands, at an altitude of approximately 1000m. Cultivated in very poor soils of limestone parent rock.
