    R de Rieussec Blanc Bordeaux

    R de Rieussec Blanc Bordeaux

Winemaker Notes The Rieussec "R" is produced on the Château Rieussec estate, 1st Classified Growth in Sauternes. It is partly from the same vines that will give Sauternes. The fermentation is done for 20% in barrels. This technique gives the wine a good aging potential while preserving as much as possible the freshness and the fruit of the grapes. James Suckling Very aromatic with cooked pears, lemon rind, peaches and stone. This is very powerful and rich with depth and intensity that show superb power. Dense and foursquare with wild fruit. It’s phenolic and exciting. Needs a little time to soften the edges. Try after 2020.

  • Maggy Hawk Skycrest Chardonnay Anderson Valley 2018

Maggy Hawk Skycrest Chardonnay Anderson Valley 2018

Maggy Hawk Skycrest Vineyard Chardonnay 2019 Review Eighty miles north of San Francisco, near Mendocino, Anderson Valley is known mostly for its sparkling wine and Pinot Noir. Of course, Chardonnay is a bubbly ingredient and Maggie Hawk shows us a nice example of what still wine from this grape can achieve here. Stone fruit and wafts of white pepper populate the nose. It has bright acidity that is perceptible but is mostly doing work keeping the wine in balance. It allows the fruity to have some depth but keeps it creamy. The alcohol is kept in check, filling the gaps with depth.

  • Delamotte Brut Blanc de Blanc Vintage 2014

Delamotte Brut Blanc de Blanc Vintage 2014

THE STORY Each village has its own style. Le Mesnil-sur-Oger (20%): acidity, purity and chalky minerality. Avize (20%): balance and structure. Oger (20%), warmth, body and generosity. Cramant: smoky minerality. Chouilly: robustness and length. And finally, Oiry: acidity and roundness. To reprise the musical analogy, each territory has its own score and, when they are all played together to create Delamotte Blanc de Blancs 2014, each one can be heard in its own right. It is left to age over six long years. Not much, given the powerfulness of this wine. Its richness is equalled only by its concentration, and yet it remains light on its feet. It can even be generous…Such is the supreme elegance of a wine with ageing potential!
