Grgich Hills Merlot Napa Valley 2017/2018
This exquisite Merlot opens with plum, rose hip, blood orange, fresh peach and cherry in the nose, with undertones of laurel and dried orange peel. Flavors of juicy red fruit explode on the palate, and an uplifting freshness carries the mid-palate with complex and dense tannins, plenty of fruit and a soft transition to a lush, lingering aftertaste. Well-balanced acidity and a silky tannin structure on this young wine leaves plenty of room for many years of aging.

Chateau Pegau Cuvee Setier Cotes du Rhone Villages 2020
90+/100 Blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre that didn’t see oak. Located in Sorgues, which is nearby Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This is a distinctive old-world style of wine. Notes of meat, smoke, black raspberry, dried strawberry, and leather. Full in body with big tannins, this is a touch rustic and full of character. Those that don’t want to splurge on Châteauneuf-du-Pape should seek this out. Dr. Matthew Horkey

Federico Curtaz Il Purgatorio Etna Rosso, Sicily 2017
Fresh nose, cherry, raspberry, strawberry. Med bodied, same impression as at nose, red fruits juice, tannins are firm, very long on fruits.

Federico Curtaz 'Gamma' Bianco Etna, Sicily 2019
Pale straw yellow. The interesting freshness of a summer beach - lime, green apples, then the roundness of honeydew. Light body, medium acidity, astringent. Citrus in the palate to a medium finish with a tiny hint of minerality. It paired ok with tagliatelle with shrimps and asparagus, and lobster with butter and lemon, for Margaret’s birthday celebration with the Williams. Overall a good wine but it lacks the minerality of an Etna Bianco and it’s too expensive for what you get.

Chateau Paloumey Haut Medoc Cru Bourgeois 2015
Winemaker Notes: The historic Napanook Vineyard, a 124-acre site west of Yountville, was planted in 1838. This vineyard was the source of fruit for some of the finest Napa Valley wines. Estate-bottled in the spirit of the Bordeaux châteaux, Dominus Estate is dry-farmed to allow natural stress and good concentration of fruit. Grape clusters are crop-thinned to allow sun and air to pass in between, helping to achieve full maturation and soften the tannins. Only 20% to 40% new French oak barrels are used in order to limit the extraction of oak notes. To express the unique terroir, the classic Bordeaux grape varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot are planted with different root stocks best suited for the varying soil composition of gravel, heavy clay and loam.

Pott Space & Time Red Mt Veeder Napa Valley 2018
The 2018 Space & Time is another magnificent wine in this range from Aaron Pott. A blend of 60% Cabernet Franc, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot from Pott's estate vineyard on Mt. Veeder, Space and Time possesses tremendous intensity from the outset. Inky, beautifully perfumed and so expressive, the 2018 is a total knock-out. Dark berry fruit, dried herbs, mocha, lavender and spice lead into the long, vibrant finish. The 2018 is arrestingly beautiful. That's pretty much all there is to it.

Secret Door Stags Leap District Hirondelle Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Cabernet Sauvignon and Blends Cabernet Sauvignon has come a long way from its role as a blending varietal, however dominant, in the wines of Bordeaux. Today it is the most planted red varietal in the world. Identified as a descendent of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, the late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon needs to be planted in warmer climates to fully ripen. Its small berries can easily be identified for their distinctive blue color, thick skins and high tannins. And while the varietal has its own definitive characteristics: green pepper-like aromas and black currant flavors among them, it is perhaps most prized for its ability to convey terroir, vintage and winemaking. A relatively new varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon started making inroads into the wines of the Médoc and Graves in the late-18th century. Today it is also dominant in the up-and-coming Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux and can also be found in Southwest France. It is the companion varietal to Sangiovese in Italy's Super Tuscans and is planted all over Europe, stretching to lesser-known winegrowing regions like Russia and Lebanon. In the Americas Cabernet Sauvignon has found champions in every nook and cranny of California and among winemakers in Washington, where it complements plantings of Merlot. In South America, Cab thrives in Chile, but can also be found in smaller amounts in Argentina and even in Mexico.
