It has long been recommended as a slimming drug in China.  Lotus leaves and root extracts have long been used in traditional Chinese medicine to help regulate the menstrual cycle and stop excess bleeding. There isn’t a lot of scientific research to back these claims. Some practitioners suggest that drinking lotus root juice or lotus soup can help you avoid anemia after menstruation by building blood to replace what was lost. From the manufacturer:  The leaves are mostly folded into a semicircle or fan shape and are like a round shield when unfolded, with a diameter of 20-50 cm, and the entire edge or slightly wavy. The upper surface is dark green or yellow-green and rough; the lower surface is light gray-brown and smooth, with 21-22 thick veins, which shoot out from the center to the surroundings, and there are protruding petiole residues in the center.
