  • Luciano Sandrone - Barolo Cannubi Boschis 2011

Luciano Sandrone - Barolo Cannubi Boschis 2011

Tasting notes The peculiar growing season of 2011 – a relatively cooler spring and summer, then torridly hot from early August thru the end of the harvest – gave textbook examples of warm-season Nebbiolo character.   The nose is seductive, very fruit forward with great floral and licorice notes. On the palate it is voluptuous and seductive, with long, sweet red fruit, fine tannins and beautiful balanced freshness. As the wine opens, balsamic and spice notes emerge. There are plenty of ripe, soft tannins and subtle hints of wood. The finish is long and clean. This is a Cannubi Boschis to enjoy relatively young, though a few more years in the bottle will not hurt.

  • Tapiz Black Tears Malbec Mendoza Uco Valley 2018

Tapiz Black Tears Malbec Mendoza Uco Valley 2018

Winemaker Notes Flavors and aromas reminiscent of ripe red fruits, dried plums, figs, fruits compote and jams. Has a nose with very subtle floral and menthol notes. Its passage through oak provides notes of dark chocolate and roasted coffee. Presence of sweet and ripe tannins. A specimen with an elegant personality, intense in flavor and an impeccable balance. Critical Acclaim James Suckling Deep blue and black fruit here, with floral, spicy and balsamic accents. Brooding and complex. You have to fathom the power of tannin on the palate, as the texture is so ultra-fine and polished. But don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of tannins here, only so seamless that they make it taste so effortless. Naturally concentrated, juicy and long. Wine Spectator Delivers aromas of petrichor and dried violet that make for an alluring entry, while the palate offers nice vibrancy to well-defined plum and red currant flavors. Offers nuances of mineral and olive that fold in around fine tannins and a lingering note of dark chocolate.

  • Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux 2003

Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux 2003

Fantastic Bordeaux! One hour decanter time. Rich, opulent, complex. Plum compote, raisins, menthol, licorice, caramel, coffee. Incredibly well balanced, great structure, over a minute long finish. A few more years in the bottle and this will likely be a 5 star wine. Too bad it was my only bottle. Paired with a perfect NY steak with a red wine and cabrales cheese sauce. Cabrales cheese is from Asturias, the Spanish version of blue cheese. Perfect pairing. Beautiful Saturday lunch. Tears of joy. --Jorge Mario

  • Carruades de Lafite Pauillac 2015

    Carruades de Lafite Pauillac 2015

Winemaker Notes Beautiful deep colour that sparkles in the glass. The nose is of course still very young, with primary notes of early ageing. Superb notes of spices and fresh raspberries. On the palate, the attack is supple and rounded. The wine then presents young, lively tannins, whose excellent quality will be revealed with time. The finish is complex and harmonious with beautiful burnt notes. This Carruades needs five to seven years to open up, and has all the characteristics of a wine that will continue to improve for many more.Blend: 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc Critical Acclaim JS94 James Suckling Lead-pencil aromas with currants and plums, too. Full body, silky tannins and a focused and very refined finish. It's the tannins that drive things. An excellent second wine of Lafite. Needs two or three years to soften. Start drinking in 2021. WE94 Wine Enthusiast This second wine of Lafite comes from young vines and wines selected during the blending. The result is a wine with the structure and nobility of the Lafite character but one that will age more quickly. It has great layers of black-currant fruits and acidity, with firm tannins as a background and rich potential. Drink from 2025.Cellar Selection

Hess Collection Panthera Pinot Noir 2019

FROM THE CELLAR “Panthera Pinot Noir showcases dynamic tension in winestyle as this wine displays both a vibrant purity of fruit and a confident oak profile. Expansive and silky on palate, notes of red plum, raspberry compote and Bing cherry work in harmony with elegant tannins, supported by a signature backbone of acidity nurtured on the Sonoma Coast. The deft baseline of toasted oak introduces hints of clove and baking spice to round out the perfectly balanced, lingering finish.” – Stephanie Pope, Winemaker

  • Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja CVNE

    Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja CVNE

97 points James Suckling  This is very ripe with blackberries, dried fruit, toasted oak and black licorice on the nose. Full-bodied with ultra-fine, linear tannins and a racy, refined finish. This has fantastic structure and length. It goes on for minutes. It needs time to open and refine even more. One of the best Imperiale Gran Reservas in a very long time.  (9/2021) 95 points John Gilman  The 2015 Imperial Gran Reserva is crafted from a constellation of eighty-five percent Tempranillo, ten percent Graciano and five percent Mazuelo this year. Like the Contino Gran Reserva, this wine tips the scales at fourteen percent alcohol in 2015 and offers up a pure, nascently complex and sappy nose of black raspberries, black cherries, Cuban cigar wrapper, a lovely base of soil tones, toasted coconut, a touch of cedar, fresh nutmeg and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, refined, deep and full, with a great core of fruit, impeccable focus and balance, ripe, firm tannins and a long, tangy and nascently complex finish. This is going to be an absolutely superb vintage of Imperial Gran Reserva, but it is even younger than the Viña Real Gran Reserva out of the blocks and will need a bit more cellaring to soften up. In due course, it is going to be a stunning wine! (Drink between 2031-2080)  (6/2021)

The nose reveals interesting and complex aromas of ripe fruits in perfect balance with spices, toffee, roasted coffee and balsamic notes. Elegance with structure. 85% tempranillo, 10% graciano and 5% mazuelo. Needs four to five years in the bottle, but already impressive to taste. • Mt Brave Mt Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Mt Brave Mt Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Winemaker Notes The 2018 growing season started with late winter rains then a spring marked with intermittent cloudy skies likely delayed bud-break and flowering, which was then followed by ideal fruit set conditions, driving up overall volumes by 20 – 30%.Steady summer heat accumulation with only a couple of short hike spikes combined with a near-perfect fall season created great phenolic accumulation without high sugar concentration. Grown on the rocky slopes of Mt. Veeder, the 2018 is mountain Cabernet at its finest. Aromas of blue and red fruits intermingle with a touch of baking spice. The tannins are firm yet refined while the weight on the palate is dense and lush. Compelling now, one can only imagine its true cellaring potential. Critical Acclaim Vinous The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon from Mt. Brave is fabulous. Inky, rich and explosive, the 2018 possesses tremendous depth and tons of personality. Graphite, blue/purplish fruit, blackberry jam, bittersweet chocolate, sage, lavender, menthol give the 2018 tons of character to match its explosive feel. The brooding, backward wine is going to need quite a bit of time to unwind, but boy is it gorgeous. Jeb Dunnuck Lots of cassis and black raspberry fruits as well as classic Mount Veeder notes of lavender, violets, bouquet garni, and rocky, mineral-like notes emerge from the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon. A deep, full-bodied mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, it has a plush, layered texture, beautiful tannins, a deep, concentrated mid-palate, and a great finish. Another head-turning wine from this label, it’s a candidate for the best Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon out there at the price point.
