浓香型铁观音按“传统半发酵”做青，按较高火温烘焙。外型色泽经过高温作用，叶绿素破坏，颜色变得乌油润，色泽变暗。由于水分的完全去除，条索稍轻，（在烘焙过程中，会失不少水分，或几乎无水分）。香气清纯，醣灶物质的分解和焦糖化使茶叶带焦糖香，炒米香等特别香型，口感醇厚甜味感强，回甘强，也俗称“熟茶”““熟铁”。
与清香型相比，浓香型铁观音的主要优点有方便保存，不必像清香型那样冷藏；由于浓香型铁观音发酵充分，茶黄素、茶红素等暖胃物质较多，所以更加养胃润肠，更加适合冬季等低温环境下饮用；可以满足了市场对铁观音的多样化需求。

It is made by allowing fresh leaves to mature before being dried, which produces the best green and black tea flavors. Even after 2-3 brews, it retains its flavor.
