There's nothing like enjoying great wines in person with your friends and loved ones. One day, hopefully sooner rather than later, we'll be back with in-person tasting. In the meantime, we're putting on some fun and exciting virtual tastings! You can enjoy the wines from the comfort of your home, pair them with a meal of your choice, indulge more since you don't have to get behind a wheel, and ask questions of the winemakers and hosts in real-time.
For our next event, we're excited to have Sommelier, Chloe Dickson of Folio Fine Wines, introduce you to the wonderful wines of Chateau Puech-Haut in Southern France's Languedoc-Roussillon. The Languedoc-Roussillon has been garnering a reputation as one of the most exciting wine regions in France! It is home to a diverse range of grape varieties and winemakers aren't as constrained by rules as they are in more traditional regions like Bordeaux and Burgundy.
Chateau Puech-Haut has been appealing to wine lovers around the globe since the 1990s with fleshy, ripe delicious fruit, prominent, refreshing acidity, and the judicious use of oak. It makes some of Languedoc's best roses and - a bonus! - the rose comes in such a beautiful bottle that you can use it as a vase!
Puech-Haut, nestled on the Mediterranean shores, and the Cevennes region foothills, spans about 625 acres and is home to vineyards of Syrah (45 years old), Grenache (60-80 year-old-vines), Carignan (50-60-year old vines), Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne.
The history of the Chateau is, above, all, the story of Gerard Bru, a visionary who, in 1980, visited the Languedoc region and purchased a parcel of land that grew olive trees. He was impressed with the unique terroir of the land, seeing right away that with its clay and limestone soils, topped with a layer of rounded pebbles, that the land was ideal for growing premium wine grapes. He replaced the olives with grapes, established Chateau Puech-Haut, and produced the first wines a few years later. Today, the winery's philosophy is to produce the best possible wines that reflect the terroir.
We hope you'll join us on August 27th - give this fun virtual tasting a try! You'll see how fun and informative it can be and learn about some great new wines.
