It is produced mostly by hand and renowned for its high quality, earning it the “China Famous Tea” title “Gong” worthy of a gift from the Emperor. Long Jing tea was made famous by the Qing Emperors who loved Hangzhou City, most notably by Emperor Qian Long. While visiting Hu Gong Temple, Emperor Qian Long thought so highly of the Long Jing tea he claimed the eighteen bushes for himself ranking them as “Gong” Tribute Tea Trees. These trees still exist and visitors can view and admire these vibrant trees at the foot of Shi Feng Mountain [Lion Peak Mountain].

Since experts have identified the original place of West Lake Long Jing to be in Shi Feng, it is the only place that has the honor “Gong” tea a tribute tea for Chinese political men and statesmen. Its environment is said to be favored by God, with heaving ridges and peaks, tiny streams, and rich green forests. During springtime, it has average rainfall with mist that engulfs the mountains and plains. Its geographical position and sandy soil are highly favorable to growing superior tea leaves.
Longjing tea leaves experience minimal oxidation. When steeped, the tea produces a yellow-green color. The tea contains vitamin C, amino acids, and has one of the highest concentrations of catechins among teas.
