Very full juicy with great strength deep ruby off dry Rioja. Medium/heavy body with medium tannins & acidity that are well balanced and textured. Lovely bouquet of cherry, oak, red currant & vanilla on nose. The palate adds strawberries & mushrooms. On mouth & throughout smoked oak flavors elegantly massages while gentle notes of cedar & earthy hints add another dimension to the olfactory & taste incredible experience. Made with the indigenous Hondarribi Zuri grape variety, this wonderful Txakoli (pronounced cha-co-li) is a brilliantly zesty example of this intriguing wine.  Bodegas Katxina strive to produce the healthiest fruit possible with which to make clean, crisp and enjoyable wine.  The grapes are harvested at optimum ripeness in October and are pressed very gently to protect the delicate fruit characters of the grape.  Following a cool fermentation the wine sits on it’s lees for 3 – 4 months at 4 degrees celsius helping to retain it’s gentle spritz.  Super fresh, with lovely aromatics and crisp, zesty finish, this is a great aperitif style and also perfect for shellfish dishes.

Medium body, high tannins, medium acidity with a long and round finish. In the mouth, it's elegant and silky but also full and expansive. Flavors of baked berry fruits, baking spices, herbs and cocoa finish with a light coating of toast. This is an amazingly complete, exemplary wine that's just entering its prime. *Editors' Choice* (MS)    97 points Decanter  Recommended by Jasper Morris MW for a tasting we held together, this just jumped out of the glass. I am giving a drinking date from now, as it is getting on towards 17 years old, but it is still extremely young and has decades ahead of it, with bright black cherry and brambled autumnal fruits in the foreground, with tertiary leather and cigar just beginning to spiral upwards. Voluptuous, powerful, layered, complex, with all the subtle toast, tar, chocolate shavings and smoke hints that you would expect from a wine with such a slow and subtle ageing process (in this case 15 months in 20,000-litre vats, 25 month in new barrels, 17 months in older barrels and a further 26 months in large-sized oak vats). I love it when a legendary wine lives up to the hype, and this more than did so. (JA)

It is deep cherry. It has intense aromas of red ripe fruit (ripe raspberry) which combine perfectly with the spicy notes of cacao, vanilla and licorice corresponding to a noble aging. It is very fresh and fruity and spicy aromas come back via retro-nasal. It is a magnificent expression of an elegant Garnacha from Aragon. - Winery
