茶餅:又稱餅茶、團茶。歐陽修《歸田錄》:茶之品,莫貴于龍鳳,謂之團茶,凡八餅重一斤。“現在仍然采用餅茶生產技術的主要就有普洱茶、六堡茶、老白茶,這樣更能發揮其越陳越香的特色風味。

普洱茶餅都是用普洱茶壓縮成餅的形狀,俗稱普洱茶餅。普洱茶多爲餅狀壓制的方式儲藏及運輸,歷史上一餅為357克,七餅為一挑,方便計算以及騾馬馱運。

茶磚:又稱磚茶、蒸壓茶,顧名思義,就是外形像磚一樣的茶葉,它是緊壓茶中比較有代表性的一種,以茶葉、茶莖,有時還配以茶末壓制成的塊狀茶。

茶磚出現于光緒年間,很多產茶地開始製作成磚茶。從前茶農交給晉商的散裝茶,體積大、重量輕,運輸不便,且需將茶葉裝入竹簍内,踩壓結實後,再行運輸頗有耗損。爲了適應茶商的要求,因而出現了磚茶生產。

最早出現的茶磚,始自光緒初年,初期壓制法一般都是采用人工壓制;從光緒四年(1878)以後,便逐漸采用了水力壓機和蒸汽機來加工磚茶。方法簡單有效便於操作。可以說西方先進工業技術,最早在我國出現,茶磚真實的表現了清代我國對外貿易的歷史面貌,以及近代科技在我國的發展演變過程。
