Come Taste Wines this Thursday...
It's Up to You!
No country in the world has quite the reputation for great and legendary wines as that bastion of the Old-World - France. It produces world-famous Bordeaux such as Chateau Latour and Chateau Petrus. The rarest and most expensive wine in the world also hails from France, that is the famous Burgundy of Domaine Romanée-Conti. But France also produces a vast amount of inexpensive table wine - mass produced, simple and cheap. In between there is a vast and diverse array of high-quality French wine, so much that it is difficult to characterize easily. Generally, Old-World wines (from France, Italy, Spain, Germany, and the Mediterranean) tend to feature earthier notes and are less obviously fruity. In addition, they tend to be lower in alcohol.
New-World countries, like the United States, Chile, Argentina, South America, and New Zealand also produce a vast range of wines from different grapes and in different styles. And wine makers in these countries have been deeply influenced by their Old-World counterparts. So obviously the wines of France have been inspirational for winemakers in Australia.
This Thursday, we'll pour six different wines for you, in three different flights: one flight of whites and two of reds. You'll get to compare, first-hand, the similarities and differences between French Chardonnay and Australian Chardonnay, French Chateauneuf-du-Pape and an Australian Shiraz (same grape as Syrah, just the down-under and South African term for it!), and French and Australian Cabernet Blends.
We hope that you won't pick a favorite and will love them all.
Please note that we will only open one bottle of Penfold's Bin 389
